Adoption & Foster Care

"I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you." These are the words Jesus spoke to us in John 14:18, and they are the words we have the power to speak to the countless thousands of hurting children in our community, country, and world who are in need of a loving family. God cares for the orphan and the fatherless because He is our Father. As Christ-followers, we can walk in His footsteps by protecting, providing for, and loving the orphan and the fatherless, as well.

Our Adoption & Foster Care ministry seeks to support those who want to take a next step in caring for these children, whatever that may look like. We want to come alongside you on this exciting journey as you learn the joy of the Father's heart.

There are 415,129 children in the United States foster care system. Each one has unique needs for support, security, and stability. Perhaps you have a heart for fostering or adoption but it's not the right time. Maybe you don't feel called to fostering or adoption personally, but you desire to serve and love children in need in other ways. There are plenty of ways to get involved!

Matthew 18:5 Foster Care Baskets

Help bless a family that receives a foster placement of a child 0-24 months. These baskets go to a family when they get a quick placement and include essentials to get them through a few days.

Foster Closet

Foster care placements can happen quickly, and many unexpected needs can arise. We have a closet to help support these families. There is always a need for new and gently used clothes of all sizes for boys and girls. Other requested items include:

•  Car seats
•  Mini suitcases and diaper bags
•  Strollers
•  Various infant bottles
•  Pack 'n Play
•  Wipes
•  Portable crib
•  African-American hair products
•  Diapers of all sizes
•  Clothing for ages 6-17, boys and girls

Donated items should be clearly labeled and placed in the Monthly Give bins located at church entrances.

Support Volunteer

A new child placement can be very overwhelming. Acts of service go a long way in encouraging a family in transition. Support Volunteers serve in a variety of ways, from helping with every day tasks or running errands to a more involved mentoring role providing regular coaching for adoptive, foster, or host families.

If you're ready to open your home to care for children in need, congratulations! You are entering a season that promises to be both challenging and very exciting as God stretches you and grows you. We want to walk alongside you on this journey from beginning to end!

Safe Families

This program is an alternative to traditional respite care using a "families helping families" model in crisis situations. You can help parents experiencing temporary crisis by providing a loving family with whom their children may stay until the crisis has passed.

Foster Care or Adoption

Below are external agencies GFC suggests when beginning the process of adoption or foster care.

AFC Header 3v2

Have you already taken the next step to foster or adopt a child? We recognize the journey continues long after you say "yes." We offer a variety of ways to encourage, resource, and connect GFC adoption and foster families both during and after the initial stages. Let us support you!

Adoption & Foster Care Parents' Night

Are you a parent of a child through foster care? Do you have children that have joined your family through adoption or are in process to do so? Or are you someone who has felt a nudging to learn more about what the Bible has to say about caring for the least of these?

Grace Fellowship Church is hosting a Parents' Night where we will gather to share our stories over a light dinner, and listen as Megan and Mark Wickersham share their family's journey of fostering and adoption that brought them their three children.

Adoption & Foster Care Mini Retreat

The adoption and foster care journey is not for the faint of heart. Sometimes we just don’t know where to start, and at other times, we are just tired from all that is required of our calling, whether it's new approaches to parenting, lots of healing, or offering much-required extra love.

Grace Fellowship Church hosts an annual Adoption & Foster Care Mini Retreat to equip and encourage women on the adoption & foster care journey. The next date is March 2-3, 2018.

Small Groups

Periodically we offer small groups to help equip you to better love, serve, and care for the children that God has brought into your life. The groups are normally 6-8 weeks long with childcare available.

Express interest in joining an adoption & foster care small group on the form below.

We want to connect with you! Join the private GFC Adoption & Foster Care Facebook group to share celebrations, needs, prayer requests, and updates. You'll meet other GFC families on this journey and be the first to know when there's a new need or resource available.
